BENZOYL PEROXIDE
Antibacterial ingredient found in topical acne products, often found in various concentrations. PRO: Bacteria do not generally develop resistance to it. CON: Can be irritating for some people. I recommend the NEUTROGENA CLEAR PORE CLEANSER for acne-prone skin.
C
How to use: Usually applied as a serum. Use in the morning before moisturizer and sunscreen.
VITAMIN C
Important antioxidant, protects against photoaging, has anti-aging effects, and reduces hyperpigmentation. Exists in various forms: L-ascorbic acid (can be unstable depending on formulation), ascorbyl-6-palmitate, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, etc… See my PRODUCT PAGE for recommendations.
How to use: Usually applied as a serum. Use in the morning before moisturizer and sunscreen.
CERAMIDES
Natural lipids, act as a “glue” to make up a large portion of your skin barrier. Improve hydration and integrity to your outer layer of skin, great for all skin types. Can be found in skin care products, such as MY HOLY GRAIL OF MOISTURIZERS.
H
Tip: Apply to damp skin for best results.
HYALURONIC ACID
A natural component of our skin, provides hydration and suppleness by acting as a humectant, or “water attractor.” It is also what the most commonly used facial fillers are made of! Be aware - if applied to dry skin, HA can actually make dehydrated skin worse by drawing water OUT of the skin.
Tip: Apply to damp skin for best results.
